Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to carrying out sweeping reforms in front of Japanese business leaders at the Japan-Indonesia Forum in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday.

In an official statement from the Government Communication Agency in Jakarta on Monday, Prabowo conveyed that Indonesia wants its international partners to know the direction of the transformation being undertaken by the government, from governance reforms to economic transformation.

“We want our partners to know that Indonesia is determined to implement real reforms. We want to create a modern and rational society. We want to uphold the supremacy of law. Our people demand good, clean, and efficient governance,” said Prabowo.

The main focus of the economic transformation being championed is downstreaming and industrialisation. Indonesia, Prabowo stressed, can no longer rely solely on exporting raw materials without processing.

Protection of critical minerals as strategic assets is non-negotiable to ensure the welfare of future generations.

“We must secure the highest economic value from our resources. We can no longer be satisfied with just exporting raw materials without added value. Our critical minerals are strategic assets. Our mineral resources must be protected for future generations,” said Prabowo.

In addition to the industrial sector, Prabowo also placed great emphasis on environmental sustainability.

The Head of State emphasised that protecting Indonesia’s forests is not only for domestic interests but also a real contribution to the health of planet Earth.

“Forests that have been destroyed must be reforested on a large scale. Not only for Indonesia’s benefit, but also for the world’s good. Many say that we are the lungs of this planet. So, let’s protect those lungs,” said Prabowo.

Furthermore, Prabowo expressed commitment to accelerating the energy transition in front of Japanese business leaders.

Indonesia targets achieving significant electricity capacity from renewable energy sources in a short time.

“We want to move very quickly to use electricity from solar energy. We have plans and are determined to realise them soon. In three years, we want to achieve 100 gigawatts of solar energy. For us, this is urgent given the current situation,” said Prabowo.
