From the Classroom to the World Stage: UBSI Student Urges Youth to Step Out of Their Comfort Zone

The opportunity to appear on an international stage does not always come to those with extensive experience. Bella Amelia, a second-semester student in the Information Systems programme at Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI), proved this by becoming an Indonesian delegate at the Global Youth Congress (GYC) 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, held from Thursday to Saturday, 2-4 July 2026. For Bella, this achievement was not just about representing her university or country, but also about the courage to seize opportunities early on. “Never hesitate to step out of your comfort zone and try new opportunities, including at the international level. UBSI has provided a strong foundation; it is up to us to be brave enough to take the step and continue developing our potential,” Bella said. Her interest in information technology was the main reason she chose the Information Systems programme. She believes the field not only teaches technical skills like programming, but also how technology can solve real problems in society. During her studies, Bella most enjoyed courses related to Python programming, SQL databases, and UI/UX. She also actively deepened her skills through independent learning, exploring data processing on Kaggle, and engaging in environment-based social projects. This enthusiasm for learning led her to qualify as a delegate for the Global Youth Congress 2026 after passing a selection process that included document preparation and writing an essay in English. In Bangkok, Bella participated in various activities such as the Youth Conference, Project Collaboration, Innovation Speech, SDGs Training, and Volunteering Exchange alongside participants from various countries. The experience provided many lessons about leadership, cross-cultural communication, and the importance of international collaboration in facing global challenges. “Opportunities do not come twice. Do not be afraid to fail; be afraid of not trying. Change does not start tomorrow, but starts today, and starts with ourselves,” she said. Bella’s story illustrates that students do not have to wait until graduation to achieve at the international level. With a willingness to learn, the courage to seize opportunities, and consistency in self-development, students can build global experience while still in university. UBSI, as a Creative Digital Campus, continues to encourage its students to actively participate in various competitions, conferences, and international forums as part of strengthening academic competence, leadership, and global networks.
