From Next Year, Tourists Can Take Transjakarta to the Thousand Islands

Starting in 2027, travel for tourists to the Thousand Islands will be easier, after the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government assigned PT Transjakarta to provide sea transport services to the Thousand Islands. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said that sea transport services to the Thousand Islands have so far been managed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency (Dishub), but the service has been deemed suboptimal due to bureaucratic issues.

“It is different from private entities, regional-owned enterprises, or the private sector. Therefore, we have decided that starting next year it will be fully managed by Transjakarta,” he said in South Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

He assessed that Transjakarta has experience in managing public transport in Jakarta. In fact, Transjakarta already operates the Transjabodetabek service, which provides public transport from Jakarta to several buffer areas.

“We believe that with that experience and with management that is currently relatively good and transparent, I am confident that next year transport to the Thousand Islands can hopefully be well organised,” Pramono said.

Even so, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government must first prepare regulations related to sea transport services by Transjakarta. This is because there is no legal basis yet for Transjakarta to open sea transport services.

It is known that Transjakarta currently operates a number of services, from BRT, non-BRT, to Transjabodetabek. Not only that, Transjakarta also operates Mikrotrans, Royaltrans, and Transbandara services.
