Jakarta, TopBusiness — Nickel Industries Ltd has reaffirmed its commitment to building a sustainable nickel industry in Indonesia through the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into its company operations.

This commitment was conveyed at the TOP CSR Awards 2026, held online on Tuesday (21/4/2026). At the forum, Nickel Industries presented under the theme “Contributing to the Sustainable Future of Indonesia’s Nickel Industry.”

ESG as Core Strategy

The company positions sustainability as part of its business strategy, through three main pillars: economic development, environmental management, and social responsibility.

Muchtazar emphasised that this approach is not merely about fulfilling obligations, but a strategic direction for the company.

“We position ESG as part of the company’s core strategy. Not just for compliance, but to ensure operational sustainability while delivering long-term value for society and stakeholders,” said Muchtazar.

According to him, this step also aligns with the role of nickel in supporting the global energy transition, particularly in the electric vehicle supply chain.

To ensure the company’s operations meet stakeholder expectations, the company has established several relevant policies, such as: Whistleblower policy, Modern Slavery Statement, Diversity Policy, Code of Conduct, and Anti-Bribery & Corruption Policy.

Investment in Human Resources

In addition to environmental and governance aspects, Nickel Industries is also promoting social development through the Nickel Industries Scholarship Programme.

This programme targets students from the company’s operational areas, such as Morowali, North Maluku, and Papua, in partnership with several universities in Indonesia.

In 2025, the company collaborated with Hasanuddin University to provide scholarships to 20 students from 12 villages in Bahodopi and Bungku Pesisir. The programme has also shown progress, including expansion of fields of study and improvements in students’ academic achievements.

Nickel Industries’ Mining Sustainability Lead, Harry Cahyono, stated that the programme is designed as a long-term investment.

“This scholarship programme not only opens access to education but also builds the capacity of young generations in operational areas to contribute to regional development and sustainable industry,” said Harry.

In 2026, the programme will be expanded through partnerships with Hasanuddin University and Yogyakarta Veteran Development University, as well as the integration of project-based internship programmes in environmental initiatives within communities.

National CSR Learning Platform

The TOP CSR Awards 2026 serves as a platform for appreciation and learning for companies to enhance the quality of CSR implementation.

The event is organised by Top Business Magazine, published by PT Madani Solusi Internasional (MSI Group), in collaboration with various stakeholders in the fields of CSR and corporate governance.

This year’s theme, “Aligning CSR and ESG for Long-Term Corporate Value and Sustainable Development”, emphasises the importance of aligning CSR and ESG to create long-term value while supporting sustainable development in Indonesia.

For Nickel Industries, this participation is an opportunity to demonstrate that the transformation of the nickel industry does not rely solely on economic aspects, but also on environmental sustainability and community empowerment.
