From Japan, Prabowo Secures Investment Agreements Worth Rp 384 Trillion
The Indonesian government has secured investment plans and business cooperation from Japan in Indonesia, with a total value reaching US$22.6 billion, or approximately Rp 384.2 trillion. This investment agreement was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during his working visit to Japan on Monday (30/3/2026). The agreement was achieved at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo, marking the high confidence of foreign investors in the national economic prospects. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the President directly witnessed the announcement of ten memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between business actors from both countries. He assured that this moment serves as a strong symbol of the commitment of the business communities of Indonesia and Japan to expand more concrete collaboration in the future. “In the presence of President Prabowo, representatives of companies from both countries took turns presenting and displaying the agreed cooperation,” stated the official remarks from the Cabinet Secretariat on its official Instagram account @sekretariat.kabinet on Monday (30/3/2026). The agreed cooperation covers various vital sectors, from clean energy downstreaming projects, oil and gas exploration (upstream), geothermal development, to digital technology. In addition, the agreement also touches on strengthening an inclusive financial ecosystem and various other strategic investments. “Under President Prabowo’s leadership, this forum becomes an important stage to demonstrate the direction of Indonesia’s economic transformation that is more modern, competitive, and sustainable,” the statement concluded. Here is the list of memoranda of understanding announced: 1. MoU on methanol production utilising CO2 emissions from PKT in Bontang, East Kalimantan, between PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur and PT Kaltim Methanol Industri; 2. MoU on cooperation in trade, commerce, and investment between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; 3. Strategic cooperation for the development of the Abadi Gas Field in the Masela Block, Indonesia, between PT Pertamina (Persero) and INPEX; 4. MoU for potential partnership opportunities in the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia and Southeast Asia between PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and INPEX; 5. MoU on the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia and Japan; design and manufacture of electronic chips and artificial intelligence between PT Eblo Teknologi Indonesia and Hayashi Kinzoku Co., Ltd.; 6. MoU related to various studies towards the realisation of the Rajabasa Geothermal Power Plant Project between PT Supreme Energy Rajabasa and INPEX; 7. MoU between SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian to contribute to Indonesia’s gold ecosystem and financial inclusion between PT Pegadaian and PT Bank SMBC Indonesia; 8. MoU on the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Beauty Partnership between PT Nose Herbal Indo and 2Way World; 9. MoU on Mandiri Aviation Leasing Fund between Danantara and Mandiri Investment Management and SMBC Aviation Capital; 10. MoU on strengthening cooperation relations between JETRO and PT Danantara Investment Management.
