From Indonesia to the World, 'AI for Life' Concept Set to Shape a New AI Era
Marking 45 years of dedication to education, BINUS University has affirmed its commitment to leading national and regional digital transformation. Through its Board of Professors, the university officially launched the strategic concept ‘AI for Life’ for Indonesia’s future. This significant step is reinforced by BINUS University’s appointment as host of the prestigious international event, the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific 2026, which will serve as a crucial platform to elevate dialogue on technological innovation and higher education in Indonesia to a global level.
Amidst an exponentially evolving technological landscape, the Asia Pacific region has become the most dynamic centre for research, innovation, and digital mobility. Responding to these challenges, the ‘AI for Life’ concept serves as a cross-disciplinary reflection, ensuring that the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) does not stop at mere tool usage but is ethically directed to strengthen quality of life, productivity, and national sovereignty.
Chairman of the BINUS University Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo, M.M., stated that this 9th Lustrum momentum provides a space for academics to make real contributions to wider society. “Through the AI for Life concept, the BINUS Board of Professors wants to emphasise that technology, especially AI, must be directed to enhance human life, not replace it,” said Prof. Harjanto.
The AI for Life concept is formulated through three strategic scientific focuses highlighting Indonesia’s technology roadmap:
Technology, Engineering, and IT (AI Transformation): Led by Prof. Firdaus Alamsjah, Prof. Widodo Budiharto, and Prof. Engkos A. Kuncoro, this sub-team stresses the transition from mere AI adoption to AI transformation, becoming a creator of economic and social value. This includes data infrastructure readiness, privacy protection, ethics, and digital talent preparation.
Business and Creative Industries: Reviewed by Prof. Harjanto Prabowo, Prof. John Fredy Bobby Saragih, Prof. Mita Purbasari Wahidiyat, and Prof. Lindrianasari, this focus views AI as a strategic partner to accelerate idea exploitation and competitive efficiency without eliminating human touch, social sensitivity, and culture.
Geopolitics, Law, and National Policy: Highlighted by Prof. Mts Arief, Prof. Tirta N. Mursitama, and Prof. Shidarta, this section underscores the urgency of data sovereignty, cyber security, asymmetric warfare mitigation, and responsive regulation capable of protecting public interests while encouraging national technological innovation.
The spirit of digital transformation and the scientific oration themed ‘Shaping the Next Intelligence Era: Artificial Intelligence, Leadership, and Collaboration’ will be further amplified at the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific 2026. The forum, themed ‘Advancing Education for Purpose and Impact’, is scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 November 2026 at the Bali International Convention Centre, bringing together over 1,000 delegates from various countries, including university leaders, government regulators, and technology industry players.
