I tried contacting my home phone number via a public
telephone, using a telephone card. It so happened, the number was
engaged and I heard a message saying: "You are connected with the
mail box, etc." Then, what surprised me was that the pulse units
of the phone card had been reduced. This means that I had paid
for a conversation that I never made.
I would not have realized this had I not used the phone card
or paid attention to the remaining phone pulse units shown on the
screen of the public telephone monitor.
