From Home to Digital Spaces, TP PKK Chair Highlights the Importance of Safety for Women
Chair of the Tim Penggerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (TP PKK) Tri Tito Karnavian has stressed the importance of creating a sense of safety for women in all spaces by opposing all forms of harassment, both verbal and physical. According to Tri, threats to women today not only occur in physical spaces but also extend to digital realms, including social media. Therefore, efforts to protect women must be carried out more broadly, not limited to the household environment. “Such things happen a lot around us. Not only within households, but also outside in public facilities, schools, and even in trusted places like religious activities and so on,” she said in a press release received by Kompas.com on Sunday (26/4/2026). She assesses that violence against women still frequently occurs repeatedly and continuously. This situation indicates that there are still many issues that need to be addressed in efforts to create a safe and mutually respectful environment. Therefore, Tri encourages women to be more courageous in voicing rejection of violence. This courage, according to her, is not only important in public forums like talk shows but also needs to be instilled and implemented in everyday life, including in the family environment. Tri explained that the family plays an important role in building attitudes of mutual respect from an early age. In this regard, mothers as the first educators in the family need to instil values of respect in children, including to boys so that they respect women. She added that as social beings, everyone needs to build attitudes of mutual respect regardless of gender. These values must be applied both at home and in broader environments. Therefore, parents are deemed necessary to boldly provide education to children from an early age with a disciplinary approach adjusted to their age levels. “Of course, by applying discipline appropriately adjusted to the age level of our children,” she added. Tri also said that the talk show activity featured speakers with expertise in advocating for the importance of safety for women. “Hopefully, it will bring tremendous benefits in the future for the interests of Indonesian women,” she concluded. For information, the “Berani Bicara: Menentang Pelecehan Verbal dan Fisik terhadap Perempuan di Semua Ruang” event was also attended by Deputy Chair of TP PKK for DKI Jakarta Province Dewi Indriati Rano Karno, TP PKK cadres from DKI Jakarta, and officials from the Persatuan Wanita Olahraga Seluruh Indonesia (Perwosi) Central Board.
