From Cakung to Cilincing, the Traffic Jams Are Horrifying

Severe traffic congestion has occurred on the road from Cakung towards Cilincing. Queues of trailer trucks have caused other vehicles to come to a near standstill. The congestion on the Cakung-Cilincing route was first reported on Tuesday morning, 21 July 2026. The Traffic Management Centre (TMC) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police reported via its official account that the congestion began at 07:36 WIB, starting from the Kolong Cakung traffic light. The congestion stretched from Cakung towards both Cilincing and Harapan Indah, Bekasi. Meanwhile, traffic flow on Jalan Raya Kalimalang, East Jakarta, towards Cawang and Buaran was observed to be busy but smooth.

The severe congestion in Cakung towards Cilincing went viral on social media. In circulating videos, vehicles could be seen halted on the road, with motorcyclists weaving between the trapped cars and trucks. East Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Unit Head, Kompol Harnas Prihandito, stated that the congestion was caused by trucks loading and unloading. Harnas said officers had been working to disperse the congestion at the location, noting that trucks were loading and unloading at several points in Cakung. “Officers have been on the ground since morning helping to clear the trucks loading and unloading at several depots in Cakung,” he said.

Congestion occurred again on Wednesday afternoon, 22 July 2026, due to container trucks queuing at length in the left lane. According to the TMC, a queue of container trucks was observed in the left lane of Jalan Cacing Raya heading towards the BSA Logistik Depot. In uploaded footage, officers found the truck queue stretching along the northbound Cakung-Cilincing road, commonly known as Jalan Cacing. The container trucks were lined up in the left lane, leaving only the two right lanes for other vehicles. The East Jakarta Transportation Sub-department implemented traffic engineering on Jalan Cakung Cilincing to ease the congestion. East Jakarta Transportation Sub-department Head, Harlem Simanjuntak, stated that traffic heading towards Jalan Cacing was temporarily directed to go straight and make a U-turn in front of the Cakung Police Sector to avoid bottlenecks at the intersection. Harlem noted that the traffic engineering was only applied to large vehicles such as trucks, and that the queue of container trucks occurred as they approached the depot entrance.
