From Bulukumba, Ainun Proves Women Can Thrive with PNM Mekaar

For many residents of Ainun’s village in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi, it is widely believed that women need not dream too far. After graduating from senior high school, marriage is considered the most natural path. That outlook also shaped Ainun’s teenage years.

However, Ainun had a different dream. She wanted to work, be independent, and help her family. The opportunity came in early 2023 when she saw a PNM Mekaar recruitment flyer shared in her school alumni WhatsApp group. After completing the training, she became a PNM Mekaar Account Officer, accompanying ultra-micro women entrepreneurs so they could grow and become self-reliant.

Since officially joining PNM on 23 March 2023, Ainun has gained more than just a job. PNM has become a space for her to grow, learn to face challenges, and realise the dream she had long fought for.

Her days are spent accompanying groups of PNM Mekaar customers, meeting mothers who run small businesses, and witnessing first-hand how the spirit to rise always finds its way. Three years have passed. Ainun can now help pay for her father’s regular chemotherapy treatment.

For her, the greatest achievement is not the income she earns, but changing the way people in her village see things. A high school diploma once thought to lead only to the religious affairs office for a marriage licence has now become the start of a journey to build a career and benefit many people.

“From my customers I have learned that whether our sustenance is little or much, we must remain grateful, because everything is portioned as it should be,” Ainun said.

Ainun is one of more than 43,000 PNM Account Officers who turn up every day to support millions of pre-prosperous women across Indonesia. Her story shows that empowerment at PNM not only opens opportunities for customers to grow, but also creates space for accompanists like Ainun to realise dreams that once nearly ended before they began.
