From Batik to Bulletproof Vests, BPDP Showcases Plantation-Based Innovations
The Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) showcased a range of MSME products and innovations based on plantation commodities at the Indonesia Tourism and Trade Investment Expo (ITTIE) 2026, held at Galeria Mall, Yogyakarta.
The displayed products extended beyond food processing to include fashion, handicrafts, and material innovations. One notable highlight was a fashion piece from Smart Batik, Yogyakarta, which utilises palm oil-based dyes.
Murti Pagar Intan, Senior Staff of the Institutional Cooperation and MSME Division at BPDP, stated that BPDP’s participation in ITES 2026 serves as a platform to introduce various downstream products of plantation commodities to the public.
“Through participation in ITTIE 2026, it is hoped that MSMEs in the plantation sector can further develop and increase their competitiveness, enabling them to scale up and expand market access. Additionally, this event serves as a means to introduce various derivative products of plantation commodities to a wider audience,” said Murti.
In addition to batik, BPDP presented handicraft products such as bags and sandals from Rumah Tamadun, Riau, and Cambia Craft, Aceh, which utilise palm oil leaf ribs as the primary material.
BPDP also presented innovations from the Palm Oil Research Grant Programme, including a bulletproof vest developed using palm oil-based biomaterials.
These diverse products were displayed to demonstrate the utilisation of plantation commodities in creating value-added products. Alongside palm oil, BPDP also introduced products based on coconut and cocoa during the exhibition.
ITTIE 2026 took place from 24–27 September 2026 at Galeria Mall, Yogyakarta. During the four-day event, the BPDP booth was visited by more than 400 people.
In addition to showcasing MSME products and innovations, the BPDP booth provided information regarding various BPDP programmes, alongside interactive and educational activities for visitors.
During the ITTIE 2026 event, BPDP received two awards: Most Innovative Stand and 2nd Best Stand.
BPDP’s participation in the exhibition also provided a meeting space for MSMEs to connect with the public, business players, business partners, and potential investors. The activity is expected to help expand promotional access and markets for MSME products based on plantation commodities.
Through the products displayed, BPDP introduced the utilisation of palm oil beyond food products, demonstrating its potential for development into fashion, handicrafts, and innovative materials.
