Two micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from East Kalimantan have successfully penetrated export markets by sending products made from local materials to several countries. Koperasi Kriya Inovasi Mandala exported cocopeat blocks to Taiwan, while PT Bungas Food Nusantara sent Wedang Dayak herbal products to Malaysia and Australia.

These exports took place during a market access enhancement synergy activity for MSMEs on 12 September 2026. The initiative involved the East Kalimantan Regional Office of Customs and Excise (Kalbagtim), Balikpapan Customs, the Directorate of Customs Facilities, the National Single Window (LNSW) agency, the Indonesia Export Financing Agency (LPEI), and the Bank Indonesia Balikpapan Representative Office.

Koperasi Kriya Inovasi Mandala exported 23 tonnes of cocopeat blocks valued at USD 7,360 to Taiwan. This coconut fibre-based product has become one of the local commodities being marketed abroad.

Meanwhile, PT Bungas Food Nusantara sent 7 kilograms of Wedang Dayak herbal products valued at USD 429 to Malaysia. The company is also set to send 12 kilograms of similar products to Australia, with a value of USD 450.

Max Franky Karel Rori, Head of Customs and Excise Facilities at the East Kalimantan Regional Office of Customs and Excise, stated that these exports demonstrate the potential for regional MSME products to enter international markets. According to him, collaboration and mentoring are necessary so that business actors understand the export process while gaining wider market access.

“Regional MSME products have the opportunity to enter international markets. Through synergy and mentoring, we strive to help business actors understand the export process while simultaneously opening up broader market access,” said Franky.

According to Franky, inter-agency collaboration is essential to build an ecosystem that supports MSMEs, ranging from capacity building to access to information and export markets.

The export by these two MSMEs showcases the variety of products based on regional potential that have entered foreign markets. Cocopeat blocks from Balikpapan were sent to Taiwan, while Wedang Dayak herbal products are being marketed in Malaysia and Australia.
