JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian car auction market continues to show positive performance in the first quarter of 2026. Petrol-fuelled vehicles remain the primary choice for consumers, particularly due to their efficiency and more affordable operating costs.

According to data from JBA Indonesia, more than 40,000 used cars have been auctioned up to the first quarter of this year.

This figure reflects the high interest from the public in auction vehicles, both for personal needs and business purposes.

“LCGC and MPV category vehicles such as the Toyota Avanza, Toyota Calya, and Toyota Agya are still quite popular because they are efficient in fuel consumption and easy to maintain,” said Johan, in his statement to Kompas.com (28/4/2026).

“Meanwhile, for business needs, commercial vehicles like the Daihatsu Gran Max, Mitsubishi Triton, and trucks are also in high demand,” he added.

Not only that, the demand for business vehicles is also steadily increasing, especially in the distribution and logistics sectors. Commercial vehicles such as pickups and trucks have become the primary choice for business operators due to their flexibility and carrying capacity.

Interestingly, JBA also recorded differences in vehicle preferences across various regions of Indonesia throughout the first quarter of 2026.

On Java Island, passenger vehicles dominate, such as the Toyota Avanza type G (1.3–1.5), Toyota Calya type G 1.2, and Daihatsu Sigra. High daily mobility makes fuel-efficient and easy-to-maintain vehicles the favourites.

In Kalimantan, the need for operational vehicles is more dominant. Models such as the Mitsubishi Canter, Triton double cabin, and Gran Max pickup have become the primary choices for industrial activities.

Meanwhile, in Sulawesi, the trend is balanced between passenger and commercial vehicles. Avanza and Calya remain popular for daily mobility, while Gran Max pickups are used for business needs.

The combination of more affordable prices, efficiency, and business requirements makes second-hand vehicles, especially in the LCGC, MPV, and commercial segments, the main targets for consumers in various regions.
