From Arar Island, Papua: Ragaia Proves PNM Mekaar Transforms Family Destinies
Ragaia has been a PNM Mekaar client since 2021, driven by a simple hope for her family: to fund her children’s education and renovate her home to a more liveable standard. With financing and mentoring from PNM Mekaar, she began renovating her house incrementally, starting with the bathroom, bedroom, and windows.
“Previously, I only thought about whether my children could stay in school and if the house could gradually become more decent. After joining PNM Mekaar, I felt there was a path for business. We started small, fixing the bathroom, bedroom, and windows bit by bit. The important thing is to keep moving so the family can live better,” Ragaia stated in a written release on Friday (5/6/2026).
From Client to Group Leader
Ragaia’s journey did not end as a regular client. Her consistency led to her being entrusted as a Mekaar Group Leader in her area. From this position, she identified a significant local issue: residents had to cross islands just to access financial services. Consequently, Ragaia decided to become a BRILink agent, a decision born from observing the needs of her community and seizing a business opportunity that provides wider benefits to her surroundings.
Empowerment from Remote Regions
Ragaia’s story demonstrates that empowerment can grow from small spaces in the most remote areas when access to financing, mentoring, and the courage to begin intersect. Through PNM Mekaar, Ragaia is now not only improving her family’s life but also encouraging women around her to take similar steps. She is one of 22.9 million Indonesians who have accessed PNM services, proving that empowerment is not limited to urban centres but reaches coasts, small islands, and the furthest corners of the country.
