Students from the Information Systems Study Programme at Bina Sarana Informatika University (UBSI), Sukabumi Campus, conducted an academic visit to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at the Samaun Samadikun Science and Technology Park in Bandung on Thursday (4/6/2026). The activity is part of UBSI’s efforts as a Digital Creative Campus to broaden students’ horizons regarding the world of research, data management, and the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which is increasingly growing across various sectors. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to directly observe various innovations and research outcomes developed by BRIN. The diverse research introduced covered areas such as renewable energy, cyber security, AI-based disease detection systems, digitisation of cultural artefacts, quantum technology, and precision agriculture utilising machine learning. Through these presentations, students were able to understand how data and technology are utilised to produce innovative solutions addressing various societal challenges. This experience also provided a real-world illustration of the application of the knowledge they have been studying in lectures. Beyond getting acquainted with various research projects, the students also gained insights into the importance of data quality in supporting the success of research. BRIN researchers explained various challenges frequently encountered in data processing, such as incomplete data, measurement errors, environmental disturbances, and handling extreme data that can affect analysis results. Through discussion sessions and direct observation, students deepened their understanding that the data processing workflow not only focuses on the use of technology but also requires meticulousness in ensuring the quality of the data used. This comprehension serves as an important foundation for Information Systems students who will frequently deal with data management and analysis in the professional world. Agung Wibowo, Head of the Information Systems Study Programme at UBSI Sukabumi Campus, stated that industrial and academic visits like this represent the study programme’s commitment to delivering learning experiences relevant to technological developments and industry needs. ‘We want students not only to understand concepts theoretically but also to see firsthand how research and innovation are developed by researchers. Thus, students have a broader picture of the application of Information Systems knowledge in the real world,’ he said in a statement on Wednesday (10/6/2026). Through this activity, students became more motivated to develop their data analysis skills, critical thinking, and capacity for innovation through the use of digital technology. Additionally, the visit to BRIN opened students’ perspectives on career opportunities and research development in the fields of information systems, data science, and AI, which are continually evolving and in demand across various industrial sectors.
