From 1 April, Government Implements WFH Every Friday and Regulates Fuel
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The government will implement eight new policies starting 1 April 2026 as a response to global dynamics while promoting domestic efficiency. These policies directly affect public activities, from work patterns to fuel (BBM) usage.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that these measures are part of a national work culture transformation to make it more adaptive and productive amid global pressures.
“This situation is not an obstacle, but rather an opportunity to accelerate behavioural changes that are more modern and efficient,” Airlangga said during an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026) evening.
One of the main policies is the implementation of work from home (WFH) every Friday for civil servants (ASN), both in central and regional agencies. This regulation will be formalised through a circular from the Minister of PAN-RB and the Minister of Home Affairs.
Airlangga explained that this scheme also encourages the digitalisation of government administration and mobility efficiency, including restrictions on the use of official vehicles. “So, reducing official vehicles and maximising the use of public transport,” he said.
The use of official vehicles will be limited to 50 percent, except for operational needs and electric vehicles. Official travel will also be cut, by 50 percent for domestic trips and 70 percent for overseas ones.
For the private sector, the government urges limited WFH implementation through a circular from the Ministry of Manpower, adjusted to the needs of each business sector.
However, several sectors will continue normal operations from offices or in the field. Public services such as health, security, and cleanliness are exempt from the WFH policy. Similarly, strategic sectors like industry, energy, food, transportation, logistics, and finance.
In the education sector, teaching and learning activities will continue face-to-face for primary to secondary levels for five days a week. Sports activities and extracurriculars will also not be restricted.
