Friends Since 1968, Indonesia and Kuwait Explore Strengthening Defence Cooperation

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Kuwait discussed opportunities for increasing cooperation in the defence sector during a meeting between Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Khalid Jassim Alyassin, at the Ministry of Defence office in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

Sjafrie shared details of their meeting via his Instagram post, @sjafrie.sjamsoeddin.

The cooperation being explored includes military education and training, exchange of expertise, and strengthening the defence capacities of both countries.

Indonesia and Kuwait have maintained diplomatic relations since 1968.

During the meeting, Sjafrie was accompanied by the Inspector General of the Ministry of Defence, the Head of the Defence Facilities Agency of the Ministry of Defence, and Major General TNI Bagus Suryadi Tayo.
