The government projects that the work from home (WFH) policy for Civil Servants (ASN) will reduce the burden on the state budget, particularly in terms of energy. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the direct savings potential from this policy reaches Rp 6.2 trillion.

“The direct savings potential from the work from home policy to the state budget is Rp 6.2 trillion in the form of fuel compensation savings,” said Airlangga during an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026) evening.

In addition, public expenditure on fuel (BBM) is also estimated to be reduced by up to Rp 59 trillion. The government has set WFH for ASN one day per week, namely every Friday starting from April 2026. Airlangga explained that the choice of day considers the relatively lighter workload.

“We chose Friday because it is a half-day, meaning not fully from Monday to Thursday,” he said.

Nevertheless, he assured that public services will continue to run. Productive sectors such as banking and capital markets will also continue to operate with adjustments.

“But public services will continue to run and productive activities, including banking, capital markets, and others, will continue to operate,” said Airlangga.

The government will also regulate the implementation of WFH in the private sector through a circular from the Minister of Manpower, while still considering the characteristics of each business sector. On the other hand, several public service sectors and strategic sectors will remain exempt from this policy, including health, transportation, energy, and logistics.
