Friday Sermon Script: Upholding the Supremacy of Law
Sidang jama’ah Jum’ah yang dirahmati Allah,
Let us be grateful to Allah SWT because we are blessed with health and faithful awareness to perform Friday prayers this afternoon. As the khatib quoted from the earlier verse, we must always guard ourselves and live this life with piety so that when we leave this world, we die as Muslims, surrendering ourselves to Allah SWT.
Shalawat and salam may always be bestowed upon the Great Prophet Muhammad SAW, his family, his companions, and upon us as his followers who constantly strive to obey his teachings. The khatib also does not forget to advise himself and all Friday congregants to increase faith and piety to the Lord of the universe.
Blessed Friday congregants,
One day, the Quraysh dignitaries held a special meeting. This was because a Quraysh woman from the Bani Makhzum had committed theft. Panicked and anxious that this case would be exposed to the public, they thought hard.
Who could lobby the Prophet Muhammad SAW to have this case dismissed? The choice fell upon Usamah bin Zaid.
Usamah rushed to meet the Prophet Muhammad SAW very carefully and full of hope. The Prophet’s beloved young man expressed the purpose of his visit. In essence, he requested a special privilege so that the Prophet SAW would not criminalise this case.
Understanding the purpose of Usamah’s visit, the Prophet Muhammad SAW’s face turned red. He restrained extraordinary anger.
Then, the Prophet Muhammad SAW stood up and said, “Indeed, what destroyed the people before you was (their reprehensible attitude). If the one who stole was a prominent person among them, they let them go. However, if the one who stole was a weak person, they enforced the punishment upon them. By Allah, if Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would surely cut off her hand.”
