Fresh quake jolts Biak
JAKARTA (JP): The second major earthquake in two weeks shook
the Biak Numfor regency yesterday, the Meteorological and
Geophysics office said in a statement.
There was no immediate report on casualties or damage.
The earthquake was registered at 6.1 on the Richter scale.
Striking at 7:41 a.m., it had its epicenter under the sea about
80 kilometers east of Biak island, the meteorological agency
reported.
More than 100 people were killed on Feb. 17 when a quake
measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck the Biak Numfor,
Manokwari and Yapen Waropen regencies. (rms)
