Fresh Out of Prison, Bontang Man Rearrested for Allegedly Dealing Methamphetamine
A man with the initials H, also known as M, aged 44, who had recently been released from prison, has been arrested again by police on strong suspicion of dealing crystal methamphetamine. The firm police action took place on Jalan Kapal Layar, Bontang Baru Village, North Bontang District, Bontang City.
Bontang Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Widho Anriano, through Narcotics Unit Head AKP Larto, accompanied by Head of Public Relations AKP Dany Purwantoro, confirmed to Media Indonesia on Tuesday (21/7) that the suspect was apprehended by a joint team on Wednesday (15/7) at around 6.30 p.m. local time.
“Police managed to secure evidence from the suspect, namely five packets believed to contain crystal methamphetamine with a gross weight of 2.27 grams, which were hidden inside a cigarette pack to deceive officers. A mobile phone was also seized,” he stated.
He explained that the investigation leading to the suspect’s arrest began with police surveillance at the targeted location. Officers observed a man acting suspiciously, prompting the team to immediately arrest the individual, who was indicated to be a methamphetamine dealer.
“From the examination and search, police found five clear plastic packets containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine. The suspect and the evidence were then taken to the North Bontang Police Station for further investigation,” Larto said.
From initial inquiries, investigators learned that the suspect H is a repeat narcotics offender who had only been released from prison earlier in 2026. He has now reoffended and must face the law again for his alleged involvement in narcotics crime.
He expressed regret that the suspect had committed another unlawful act, noting that the previous bad experience of serving a sentence should have been a lesson for H not to repeat the offence.
“We hope that every former inmate can make use of the opportunity to start a better life,” he said.
However, if they choose to become involved in narcotics crime again, the Bontang Police will not hesitate to take firm action and process them according to the applicable legal provisions.
“There is no tolerance for perpetrators who threaten public safety through drug trafficking,” he concluded.
