Fresh Graduates Face Grim Prospects as AI Makes Job Hunting Increasingly Difficult
The increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) is making it more difficult for people to find work, particularly for fresh graduates seeking entry-level positions. A study by a Swiss job portal found that the proportion of junior job advertisements in Switzerland in 2025 was 32% lower than during the 2019-2022 period, a phase before the massive integration of AI. The research analysed 7.3 million job advertisements and surveyed over 3,600 workers. Jobs most affected by massive AI adoption include marketing, administration, finance, and IT. While demand for AI skills is growing even outside purely technological roles, offers for senior positions in AI-exposed roles increased by 26% in 2025, contrasting with a decline of 165 junior positions. However, junior roles remain in demand in non-office and research sectors, particularly in healthcare, construction, and trades, which are experiencing labour shortages. The phenomenon is causing significant concern among young people, with 41% of survey participants under the age of 25 expressing a fear of becoming obsolete in the workplace due to AI.
