Frequently Damaged, Kebon Sirih Road in Central Jakarta to Be Concreted This Year
The Jakarta Public Works Department will concrete Kebon Sirih Road in Central Jakarta this year. This step is being taken after residents frequently complained about the road’s condition.
Head of the Jakarta Public Works Department, Heru Suwondo, stated that Kebon Sirih Road has repeatedly experienced damage. He said that the soil conditions at the location are one of the causes.
“Kebon Sirih Road has indeed often been damaged for a long time. After being repaired, it does not last long. One of the causes is the poor subsoil condition, plus there are excavations,” said Heru at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (24/4/2026).
According to him, using asphalt is less effective for the road’s condition, especially during the rainy season. He mentioned that water entering the soil causes the asphalt to peel off quickly.
“This year we will return to Kebon Sirih, but with different materials. We will use concrete so that it does not keep getting damaged like now,” he explained.
Heru revealed that not the entire stretch of Kebon Sirih Road will be concreted. This is because there are plans to build an MRT line in the area.
“We have already mapped the MRT station points. For areas that will become station locations, we will not work on them, just tidy them up. Meanwhile, outside of that, we will carry out concreting,” he said.
Heru reminded that the construction process could cause traffic congestion. He hopes the road repairs will make drivers more comfortable.
“We ask for the public’s understanding. There may indeed be disruptions later, but this is for the long term so that the road is stronger and does not get damaged quickly,” he said.
