Frequent Flooding Prompts Normalisation of Drainage Channel in Kebon Jeruk
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department is carrying out normalisation or widening of the drainage channel on Jalan SMA 57, RW 06, Kedoya Utara Ward, Kebon Jeruk Sub-District, due to its vulnerability to causing puddles as a result of frequent blockages.
“We are carrying out repairs and normalisation of the drainage by installing 40 x 40 centimetre U-ditches,” said the Field Coordinator of the Water Resources Executive Unit (Satpel) for Kebon Jeruk Sub-District, Ujang, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Ujang explained that, in addition to frequent blockages, the channel is also considered narrow, making it inadequate to accommodate water during heavy rain.
“So with the installation of these U-ditches, the channel becomes larger and easier to clean,” Ujang stated.
Furthermore, Ujang said the normalisation work has been underway since early March 2026 and is targeted for completion in May 2026.
The length of the normalised channel is approximately 360 metres. Eighteen personnel from the Water Resources Sub-Department and one unit of mini heavy excavator bechoe have been deployed for the work.
“As of now, progress is around 40 percent. We estimate that if there are no obstacles, the work will be completed in the next two to three months,” he concluded.
