The Indonesian government has conveyed condolences over the death of a French soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The soldier was killed when his convoy was attacked in southern Lebanon on Saturday (18/4/2026).

“The Government of Indonesia extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the Government and people of France over the death of the French peacekeeper and the injuries sustained by several others in the incident involving UNIFIL on 18 April 2026,” stated Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) on its official X account on Saturday evening.

According to Kemenlu, the attack on UNIFIL forces, which occurred during the 10-day Israel-Lebanon ceasefire, is unacceptable.

Indonesia calls on all parties to exercise restraint, respect state sovereignty, and uphold international law, including international humanitarian law.

Kemenlu added that the ceasefire must be fully respected and not violated by acts of violence that risk escalating tensions.

“Indonesia continues to express its concerns over the ongoing attacks against UNIFIL. Peacekeeping forces must not be targeted; such actions may be considered war crimes,” stated Kemenlu.

“Indonesia reaffirms its shared commitment to strengthening protection for UN peacekeeping personnel, as reflected in the Joint Statement on the Safety and Security of UN Personnel on 9 April 2026,” the statement concluded.
