French Foreign Minister: Trump's Statement on the Pope is Unacceptable

Moscow (ANTARA) - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated on Sunday (19/4) that US President Donald Trump’s remarks about Pope Leo XIV are unacceptable.

“I do not understand [these statements] and do not consider them acceptable, because the Pope’s mission is to call for peace and brotherhood wherever and in all situations,” Barrot said in an interview with Radio J.

The Pope has repeatedly criticised US actions in Iran, describing threats against the Iranian people as unacceptable. In response, Trump launched a sharp criticism of the Pope, stating that he does not need a Pope who opposes his policies.

Furthermore, Trump claimed that Pope Leo would not be in the Vatican if Trump himself were not in the White House.

Following Trump’s statement, Pope Leo said he would not engage in public disputes with the US president and would continue to speak out strongly against war.
