French-flagged ship targeted with 'warning shots' in Hormuz

Istanbul (ANTARA) - A container ship operated by French shipping company CMA CGM became the target of “warning shots” while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. The company stated on Sunday that the vessel had been attacked, causing damage, but the crew were reported safe and uninjured. Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the ship sustained damage north of Kumzar, Oman, although the extent of the impact was not detailed, citing the International Maritime Organisation. AFP also reported no pollution incidents resulting from the damaged ship. According to the company’s statement, the vessel remained operational, with damage limited to several containers. Several ships, including the Everglade, were reportedly fired upon by Iranian forces after Tehran cancelled the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian officials, the waterway was reclosed as a retaliatory measure against the ongoing US blockade of the country’s ports.
