French dance to be performed

JAKARTA (JP): The public will once again be able to enjoy a contemporary dance performance: Ignis, choreographed by Gladys Sanchez from France.

The performance on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Teater Luwes, Institut Kesenian Jakarta, will be performed by dancers Gladys Sanchez, Emmanuelle Beauvois and Nathalie Auger.

Sanchez collaborated with Eric Wurtz, a French lighting designer, in Ignis. They have been collaborating in dance since 1997 when they, along with Italian dancer Chiara, stayed in Indonesia for two months on a cultural exchange program.

The Centre Culturel Francais Jakarta has invited both artists, who are in the Double 6 group, to present their newest work with the above title.

This original collaboration between Sanchez and Wurtz proves to be a work of art that questions the relation between movements and lights. Video pictures are projected onto lengths of tulle, producing amazing silhouettes in fast or slow movements.

Music to the performance is accompanied by percussion instruments in acknowledgement of Indonesia, where Ignis was created.
