The Indonesian government has officially imposed operational restrictions on cargo transport vehicles along Bali’s main highway ahead of the Eid holiday exodus for the Islamic year 1447 Hijriah. Freight vehicles are prohibited from using Denpasar-Gilimanuk Road beginning Friday, 13 March 2026.

The policy is based on a joint decision letter (SKB) from four central agencies: the Directorate General of Land Transport, Directorate General of Maritime Transport, Directorate General of Highways, and the Traffic Police Corps. The restrictions will take effect from 13 March 2026 at 12:00 WITA until Sunday, 29 March 2026 at 24:00 WITA.

“The vehicle restrictions during Eid holiday travel begin on 13 March 2026. We have already begun socialising this with freight vehicle drivers passing through,” stated I Made Ria Fran Dharma Yuda, supervisor of the Cekik UPPKB service unit, when confirmed by detikBali on Friday (27/2/2026).

Beyond the main Denpasar-Gilimanuk route, restrictions also apply to the Nusa Dua-Denpasar corridor. This measure aims to grant full priority to passenger vehicles, including motorcycles and private cars, expected to crowd Gilimanuk Port.

Prohibited vehicle types include cargo trucks with three or more axles, vehicles with trailers or semi-trailers, and transport of excavated materials (soil, sand, stone), mining products, and building materials.

Whilst restrictions apply, the government has granted exemptions for vital logistics categories, including fuel and gas transport, livestock, fertiliser, disaster relief, and 15 types of essential goods (staple foods).

“However, exempted transport vehicles must provide proper shipping documentation from the goods owner affixed to the left front window. This includes contract documents to ensure vehicles comply with weight and dimension limits (ODOL),” Yuda stated firmly.

During Eid transport operations, the Cekik UPPKB facility at Gilimanuk will be converted into a parking area or buffer zone to ease congestion at the port.

Meanwhile, Jembrana Police Chief AKBP Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati announced that authorities have identified critical points along the route to Gilimanuk Port. Security posts will be stationed from Pengeragoan in eastern Jembrana through to Gilimanuk.

“We will establish posts along the entire route. We are also preparing parking buffer zones and traffic management protocols to ensure private and public vehicles receive priority,” said Citra.

Citra also issued special guidance for residents planning to travel to Java Island for Eid. Given that this year’s Eid celebration falls close to Nyepi (Balinese New Year), residents are urged to plan their journeys carefully.

“We advise residents to travel earlier. Since this year’s Eid falls close to Nyepi Day, this needs careful coordination,” Citra concluded.
