The Jakarta Provincial Government has officially implemented operational restrictions on freight transport vehicles that will traverse toll road sections in Jakarta during the Eid homecoming and return journey periods. This policy applies from 13 March to 29 March 2026.

Yayat Sudrajat, Head of Traffic Control and Road Transport Operations at the Jakarta Transportation Department, explained that this measure is crucial in reducing potential vehicle congestion on toll roads.

“Operational restrictions on freight transport vehicles begin on Friday, 13 March 2026, from 12:00 noon until Sunday, 29 March 2026, at 24:00,” said Yayat.

According to Yayat, freight transport vehicles operating at relatively lower speeds can trigger lengthy queues if they operate simultaneously with peak homecoming traffic.

“If freight vehicles enter the toll road and coincide with the homecoming rush, congestion is inevitable because of the slower speed of freight vehicles when operating on toll roads,” he explained.

The restrictions target several vital routes. Despite strict enforcement, the regulation—a joint decision across agencies (Directorate General of Land Transportation, Directorate General of Marine Transport, Directorate General of Roads, and National Police Traffic Corps)—still provides exemptions for vehicles carrying urgent necessities.

Vehicles permitted to traverse include those transporting essential goods and supplies. The government, through the Ministry of Transportation, is implementing operational restrictions on freight transport during the 2026 Eid holiday season to ensure smooth homecoming traffic flow.

Freight transport restrictions operate on a time-window basis, allowing certain periods for freight vehicles to continue operating on arterial roads. The Jakarta Transportation Department estimates that 4 million residents will remain in Jakarta during Eid 2026.
