Manggarai Barat, NTT - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has distributed humanitarian aid worth Rp2.5 billion to support the handling of communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), while also deploying emergency response teams to provide medical services, rescue, evacuation, and psychosocial support.

The President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas, stated in Manggarai Barat, NTT, on Tuesday, that PTFI moved swiftly to respond to the disaster by deploying an Emergency Response Team and sending aid via special flights.

He personally led the aid delivery mission to present assistance to the affected community in Cunca Wulang Village, Mbeliling District, West Manggarai Regency.

The company’s aid includes bedding equipment, tents, blankets, hygiene kits, and support for the construction of emergency schools.

In distributing the aid, PTFI is collaborating with Human Initiative (HI) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), while some assistance is also being delivered through the Kompas Humanitarian Fund.

Through the partnership with HI, PTFI’s emergency response aid will be distributed in Nagekeo, Manggarai, and East Manggarai regencies, focusing on four sectors: food and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, housing and settlements, and basic health services. The initial phase of aid includes 700 bedding kits, personal hygiene kits, shelter kits, basic food packages, five temporary shelters, and four emergency schools.

Tony noted that PTFI’s involvement also stemmed from company employees who raised humanitarian donations through the #PTFIPeduliNTT movement. The funds collected by employees were subsequently matched by the company as a form of collaboration between employees and PTFI management located in Timika, Nabire, Gresik, and Jakarta.

During the operation, the team provided services to approximately 500 patients and conducted medical support, rescue, and evacuation of disaster victims. The team also provided psychosocial support in the form of trauma healing for children in several locations, including Liang Dalo Village in Golo Wontong, Waso Village, Mbinjar Village, Maki Village, and Golo Mangung Village.

Tony stated that disaster management does not end with the emergency response phase, as there remains a significant need during the recovery stage. Therefore, PTFI is inviting other companies and various parties to strengthen collaboration in helping affected communities to recover quickly.

Meanwhile, the Regent of West Manggarai, Edistasius Endi, expressed appreciation for the support provided by PTFI and various other parties in handling the earthquake.

The West Manggarai government noted that a total of 36,102 people from 7,777 households were affected, with 10,757 houses experiencing light, moderate, or heavy damage, while approximately 9,000 residents in evacuation tents have received medical services.
