President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), Tony Wenas, along with the chairs of three workers’ and labour unions at PTFI, signed the 24th Collective Labour Agreement (PKB) for the period 2026–2028 in Jakarta on Friday (10/4/2026). The three union chairs are Yudha Noya, Chair of the All-Indonesian Workers’ Union (SPSI); Makmesser Kafiar, Chair of the All-Indonesian Labour Union (SBSI); and Virgo Solossa, Chair of the Independent Papua Workers’ Union (SPMP). Minister of Manpower Yassierli attended the signing and extended congratulations to all employees and the negotiating teams. He hoped that the agreed PKB would serve as a solid foundation for building harmonious, productive, and sustainable industrial relations. “The PKB is an important momentum for the two main components of the company, namely management and workers’ or labour unions as representatives of workers, to synergise and collaborate in building a joint agenda. This becomes even more relevant considering the challenges ahead that are not easy,” said Yassierli in a press release received by Kompas.com on Saturday (11/4/2026). On that occasion, Yassierli also expressed gratitude and prayers for PTFI, its workers, and the people of Papua. “I pray that PT Freeport Indonesia continues to advance, and that the workers and people of Papua become increasingly prosperous,” he stated. The signing of the 2026–2028 PKB is the culmination of negotiations between PTFI management representatives and the three workers’ or labour unions. The series of activities began with the reading and ratification of the rules of procedure as a common foundation for conducting the dialogue process. This was followed by verification, preparation of the rules of procedure, until full agreement was reached after negotiations. This series started on Monday (23/2/2026). “The PKB we signed today is the 24th. That means, for 48 years we have had a PKB that is perhaps one of the longest in Indonesia,” said Tony. For information, the composition of the negotiating team consists of the PKB Negotiating Team from the employer side numbering 8 people, the PKB Negotiating Team from the Workers’/Labour Unions (SP/SB) numbering 9 people, as well as the Industrial Relations Guidelines Formulation Team (PHI) from each side, each numbering 9 people. Tony assessed that the PKB is an important instrument in providing work protection, certainty of rights, and a manifestation of the company’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
