Freelander 8 records more than 10,000 pre-orders within 48 hours

The Freelander 8 recorded more than 10,000 initial orders within just 48 hours of the vehicle’s pre-sale opening on 14 August 2026, according to Chery Jaguar Land Rover (Chery-JLR).

According to a CarNewsChina report on Monday (17/8), the five-seat Freelander 8 is offered at a starting price of 339,900 yuan, or around Rp901 million, while the six-seat version starts at 349,900 yuan, or approximately Rp928 million.

Freelander operates as an independent brand under the Chery-JLR joint venture. However, the Freelander 8 does not display the Land Rover emblem on its exterior.

The Freelander 8 is an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV).

The car uses an 800-volt EREV drive system, consisting of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder range extender engine and two electric motors. The total system output is claimed to reach 610 kW with 813 Nm of torque.

The 60.3 kWh CATL Freevoy battery in the Freelander 8 is claimed to enable the vehicle to travel up to 310 km in electric mode based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standard.

According to Chery-JLR, the battery records a charging time from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 12 minutes.

The vehicle’s chassis uses dual-chamber air suspension with CCD damping, a front mechanical differential lock, and rear-wheel steering with a turning angle of up to 10 degrees.

The processor used in the vehicle’s cockpit is the Snapdragon 8397 from Qualcomm. The cabin is also equipped with a 15.6-inch Mini LED central screen and a 17.3-inch screen in the rear ceiling.

All Freelander 8 variants are equipped with the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 driver assistance system.

This SUV has already begun production at the Chery-JLR Changshu plant in Jiangsu, China, on 30 July 2026.

Freelander is targeting annual global sales of 300,000 units within the next three to five years.
