Free treatment for TB patients

JAMBI: Free medication is now available for people with tuberculosis in Jambi province, an official said on Tuesday.

"The free medication is available at community health centers across the province," said head of the Jambi Health Office, Oscar Karim.

According to the office data, 2,997 people currently have tuberculosis in the province, an increase from 2,924 last year and 2,817 in 2003.

Oscar said that by providing free medical treatment, it is hoped the local health office can treat 70 percent of people with tuberculosis.

"There's no need to be afraid to seek treatment since it's free and the medical workers have been trained for this," he said. -- JP
