Free Shroud Bank Opens in Bandung for Underprivileged Residents
A free burial shroud bank has been opened for underprivileged communities on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Bandung City. Neighbourhood and community unit heads can visit the aspiration house of House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI member Fathi to obtain the shrouds for use when a resident passes away. Fathi stated that the presence of the shroud bank aims to assist disadvantaged residents in the Bandung and Cimahi areas. He noted that he frequently receives reports of families struggling to obtain a shroud after a death. “The aim is to help the community; if someone dies and has difficulty obtaining a shroud, they can come directly here and we will provide it free of charge,” he said on Saturday (4/7/2026). He explained that many underprivileged residents have to borrow money to buy a shroud for a deceased family member. The distribution of shrouds is flexible, based on the needs of the community. “We give two to three packages per community unit. So, we have distributed several thousand packages so far,” he said.
