Free Public Transport in Jakarta Today, Valid Until 23:59 WIB

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is implementing a special public transport fare of Rp 1 on Friday (24/4/2026), valid until 23:59 WIB. This policy covers all Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta services in commemoration of National Transportation Day. The information was shared via the official Instagram account of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, @dishubdkijakarta. “Special gift for Jakarta residents! Celebrate National Transportation Day, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is applying a public transport fare of Rp 1,” the account posted, as quoted by Kompas.com on Friday. “Save money, comfortable, and fun to get around Jakarta using public transport,” the post continued. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that this policy is part of efforts to encourage the public to switch from private vehicles to public transport. “Happy National Transportation Day on 24 April. We welcome it by providing facilities or free access,” Pramono said in a video post on his personal Instagram account, quoted on Thursday (23/4/2026). According to him, this step is expected to be the beginning of changing public behaviour in choosing daily transport modes. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also hopes this policy can help reduce congestion and curb air pollution in Jakarta. Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta, Ayu Wardhani, explained that although the fare is free, users are still required to tap their cards or use the app. This is because the system still records the journey with a symbolic Rp 1 fare. “Through the Rp 1 fare, we want to provide convenience while inviting more residents to switch to public transport as an efficient and sustainable mobility choice,” Ayu said. She added that the momentum of National Transportation Day is hoped not to last just one day, but to become the initial step for change towards wider use of public transport in daily life.
