Jakarta, Indonesia – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has confirmed that all public transport services in the capital will be made free during Eid al-Fitr 2026. The policy encompasses MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, and the JakLingko service, which residents will be able to use without charge.

“During Eid al-Fitr, we will provide free transport across all services in Jakarta,” Pramono stated whilst opening the Jakarta Ramadhan Festival at Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.

The initiative is also expected to reduce traffic congestion as mobility increases during the festive period. “Why are we doing this? Again, to demonstrate that rather than dealing with traffic jams or travelling abroad to shop, it is better to remain in Jakarta,” Pramono added.

Beyond free transport, the Jakarta provincial government is preparing complementary programmes. Hotels and shopping centres will be encouraged to offer substantial discounts through tax incentives provided by the local government.

The culmination of Jakarta’s Eid celebrations is scheduled to begin on 31 March 2026, featuring various entertainment activities including light festivals and themed events under the banner “Homecoming to Jakarta”. Pramono invited residents to celebrate Eid in the capital, noting that modern technology allows people to stay connected with family through video calls whilst enjoying the city’s offerings.

Pramono stated that this policy follows directives from President Prabowo Subianto. “For work-from-home arrangements, the central government’s directions will also be implemented in Jakarta,” he said.
