Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has inaugurated Taman Bendera Pusaka, a new public recreational facility in South Jakarta, which features free padel courts alongside numerous other sports amenities.

The 5.6-hectare park integrates three previously separate parks—Taman Ayodhya, Taman Langsat, and Taman Leuser—and is equipped with extensive sporting facilities including multifunctional courts for basketball, tennis and badminton, as well as a 1.2-kilometre jogging track.

“The park’s facilities include padel courts, multifunctional courts for basketball, tennis and badminton simultaneously, and tunnels connecting the various park zones,” Pramono said during the official inauguration ceremony held in Jakarta on Friday, 14 March.

Beyond sports facilities, the park is equipped with an amphitheatre, pedestrian pathways and connecting bridges between different sections. The park’s design is inspired by the philosophy of the Red and White flag, expressed through two primary zones: the red zone symbolising active and dynamic spirit, whilst the white zone represents calm and reflective atmosphere.

Approximately 285 trees from 12 different species have been planted throughout the park, including rare varieties such as menteng, ebony, jempaka and kecapi. The park also features a statue of Fatmawati Soekarno, honouring the woman who sewed the Indonesian flag in anticipation of the nation’s independence proclamation.

Significantly, Pramono emphasised that the park’s development utilised no provincial budget allocation whatsoever. “The funding came entirely from private sector partnerships, foundations, and cooperative agreements—no APBD funds were used at all,” he stated.

The park will operate continuously for 24 hours and is equipped with comprehensive security systems including CCTV coverage. However, Pramono clarified that the facility is designated for public recreational activities rather than overnight stays, with security personnel tasked with reminding visitors of this policy.

Given limited car parking capacity at the location, Pramono encouraged visitors to utilise public transportation. The park’s proximity to the Blok M area provides convenient access to various transport modes, making public transit a viable option for most visitors.
