Free Nutritious Meals Programme Resumes as School Holidays End
The long school holiday period for the 2026 academic year has concluded, and the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme is being distributed again starting today. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) announced on Monday (13/7/2026) via its official account that MBG distribution to schoolchildren would resume on 13 July 2026 and be rolled out across various regions.
"Starting 13 July 2026, the Free Nutritious Meals Programme will be distributed again to beneficiaries in various regions," the BGN stated. The agency noted that all Nutritional Service Fulfilment Units (SPPG) have made preparations to ensure the meals served remain of high quality. "All SPPG units have carried out various preparations so that operations run safely and smoothly while maintaining the quality of every portion served," it wrote.
The BGN added, "We are ready to welcome back the smiles and enthusiasm of students on their first day of school. See you at school, and enjoy your Free Nutritious Meals!" It was previously known that the BGN temporarily suspended MBG distribution during the school holidays. This policy was said to have saved the budget by more than Rp 3 trillion.
BGN Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari explained that the temporary suspension of the programme was regulated in Circular Letter (SE) Number 12 of 2026 concerning the adjustment of SPPG operations during the holiday period. "On 17 June 2026, the BGN issued SE Number 12 of 2026 regarding the adjustment of SPPG operations during the holiday period in the context of implementing the MBG programme for the 2026 fiscal year," Sari stated at the BGN office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (18/6).
