Free Nutritious Meals Programme in Lebak to Continue During Ramadan
The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme in Lebak regency, Banten, has been confirmed to continue operating throughout Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) of Lebak regency has guaranteed the programme's implementation in accordance with directives from the central BGN, with specially adapted menus for the holy month.
Asep Royani, the BGN coordinator for Lebak regency, explained that MBG menus during Ramadan would differ from those served on ordinary days. The meals provided will consist of dry foods such as bread, shredded meat (abon), nuts, and fruit — items that can be preserved until the time of breaking fast.
Additionally, the MBG programme will continue to cater specifically to breastfeeding mothers, pregnant women, and toddlers, who will receive wet food menus.
Distribution of MBG meals commenced on 23 February 2026 and is directed at students across primary school (SD/MI), junior secondary school (SMP/MTs), and senior secondary school (SMA/SMK/MA) levels as programme beneficiaries.
According to reports up to Sunday 8 February, the MBG programme in Lebak is being implemented by 102 Nutrition Service Units (SPPG), reaching 255,000 beneficiaries.
The programme has also absorbed 5,305 workers across the 102 SPPG units, averaging 52 workers per unit.
Asep added that the MBG programme has contributed to local economic growth and the creation of new employment opportunities. "We appreciate that the MBG programme in Lebak has been running well, and no cases of food poisoning among beneficiaries have been found," he said.
At the national level, the government has ensured the MBG programme will continue during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah with adjustments to service mechanisms for students and beneficiary groups, as decided in a limited coordination meeting of the Coordinating Ministry for Food regarding the strengthening of implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 115 of 2025.
By the end of January 2026, the MBG programme had reached more than 60 million beneficiaries across Indonesia, served by 22,091 operational SPPG units nationwide.
