Free Nutritious Meal Programme Suspended During 2026 School Holidays
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) will not distribute Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) during the 2026 school holiday period. This policy has been adopted as a strategic measure to restructure, standardise operational governance, and improve resource efficiency.
Deputy Head and Spokesperson for BGN, Agustina Arumsari, explained that the decision is stipulated in Circular Letter Number 12 of 2026, issued on 17 June 2026. The letter regulates the Operational Adjustment of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) during the holiday period for the MBG programme in the 2026 fiscal year.
βFor this occasion, the policy we have taken is to completely cease MBG distribution with the aim of standardising operational governance and resource efficiency,β Agustina stated during a press conference at the BGN Office in Jakarta on Thursday (18/6).
The distribution halt coincides with the formal school holiday period set by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, running from 22 June to 13 July 2026. During this period, all beneficiary categories will not receive free food supplies.
Agustina emphasised that, unlike the Ramadan period which utilised a bundling system, this school holiday period will be used purely for a total evaluation. The BGN is committed to using this momentum to improve programme management for more optimal implementation in the future. These governance improvements will subsequently be applied consistently during every holiday period, including odd and even semester breaks, national holidays, religious holidays, and facultative holidays set by regional governments.
