Free Nutritious Meal Programme Budget Realisation Reaches 63.89 Per Cent as of September 2026
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has recorded that the budget realisation for the 2026 Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme reached Rp139.77 trillion as of 16 September 2026. This figure is equivalent to 63.89% of the total available ceiling of Rp218.77 trillion.
The Head of BGN, Sudaryono, explained that this achievement goes hand in hand with ongoing improvements to the programme’s governance. The primary focus of these improvements includes sharpening the criteria for beneficiaries and strengthening the readiness of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) across various regions.
“The budget realisation for the MBG Programme as of 1_6 September 2026 has reached Rp139.77 trillion. We are continuously improving governance to ensure the programme implementation is more targeted and that the quality of service is maintained,” Sudaryono stated during a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Thursday (17/9).
Overall, the total budget ceiling for the BGN in 2026, following a spending refinement process, is Rp229.75 trillion. From this amount, the largest allocation is dedicated to the National Nutrition Fulfilment Programme, valued at Rp221.30 trillion, of which 98.86% or Rp218.77 trillion is specifically allocated for the MBG programme.
As of mid-September, the total BGN budget realisation reached 63.83% or Rp143.04 trillion. Based on expenditure types, the highest absorption was recorded in Capital Expenditure at 71.03%, followed by Personnel Expenditure at 64.33%, and Goods Expenditure at 63.82%.
Regarding the programme’s reach, as of 31 August 2026, the implementation of the MBG programme has reached 56.99 million beneficiaries. This figure covers 76.45% of the total target of 74.56 million people. Sudaryono emphasised that a refocusing process is underway to ensure that assistance is more directed towards groups in need, including those in the 3T regions (Underdeveloped, Frontier, and Outermost).
As part of the evaluation, 1,653 educational units have been removed from the beneficiary list to increase targeting accuracy. The BGN ensures that the remaining budget of Rp79 trillion will be optimised to support the distribution of the MBG programme through to the end of the 2026 fiscal year in a gradual and accountable manner.
