Free mudik schemes across Indonesian provinces
Free mudik schemes are in full swing across Indonesian provinces, with multiple regional governments launching programmes to assist residents travelling home for the holiday season.
In South Sumatra, the provincial government organised a free mudik initiative providing 27 buses for 941 participants with routes covering both intercity travel within the province and intercity travel between provinces.
DKI Jakarta’s provincial government launched a considerably larger programme, operating 400 buses to transport 18,813 homebound travellers to 20 destinations across Java and Sumatra.
Complementing these government initiatives, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) organised its own free mudik scheme, providing 44 buses including specialised vehicles for persons with disabilities. The bank’s programme transported 2,261 participants from Jakarta to various cities across the country.
The free mudik programmes represent coordinated efforts by both state institutions and private sector entities to alleviate transport costs and facilitate holiday travel for Indonesian workers and their families.
