Free Motorcycle Freight Rail Service 2026 Officially Launched, Here Are the Routes and Registration Details
JAKARTA — The Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Railways has officially launched a free motorcycle freight rail service (Motis) coinciding with the 2026 Eid holiday.
The programme represents a government initiative to reduce traffic accident rates during the 2026 Eid exodus, particularly amongst motorcyclists undertaking the annual mudik (return journey).
“According to a survey conducted by the Transport Policy Agency under Kemenhub, approximately 24.08 million people will travel by motorcycle during the mudik period. This obviously poses significant safety risks to riders. Through the Motis programme, the government is endeavouring to provide a safer, more comfortable, and cost-free travel alternative,” said Director General of Railways Allan Tandiono in an official statement on Sunday, 1 March 2026.
Registration for the 2026 Eid free motorcycle rail transport service opened from 1–29 March 2026, with transport operations scheduled for 13–19 March 2026 during the outbound exodus and 24–30 March 2026 for the return journey.
Tandiono noted that whilst the 2025 service covered only the Northern and Central routes, the government has expanded coverage this year by adding the Southern route.
The programme now serves three major railway corridors: the Northern route, Central route, and Southern route.
