According to a statement from the Government Communications Agency (Bakom) on Monday, Prabowo said ongoing global crises have prompted the government to further develop the economic sector and invest in human resources over the long term.

The implementation of the free meals program has become a significant driver of economic growth, as it supports the people’s economy, enhances purchasing power, and promotes inclusive growth.

“It is a stimulus for growth at the grassroots level,” the president said.

The government is targeting 80 million recipients of MBG meals in 2026, including schoolchildren, infants, and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

“The program is designed to provide meals for more than 80 million people each day,” Prabowo said.

“This program accounts for 11 percent of the central government’s budget this year,” he added.

Prabowo reaffirmed his commitment to prioritizing investment in flagship public programs. In addition to the free meals program, these include the provision of subsidized housing and the development of village cooperatives.

The president also pledged to strengthen the grassroots economy by empowering small businesses to ensure the national economy remains resilient amid global challenges.
