Free Family Planning Services Held Nationally until 7 October 2026
The public, particularly couples of reproductive age, can take advantage of free family planning (KB) services being held simultaneously across Indonesia until 7 October 2026. These services are available at health facilities registered with the Ministry of Population and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)/BKKBN.
The simultaneous family planning services are taking place from 7 September to 7 October 2026, as part of the series of commemorations for World Contraception Day, observed annually on 26 September.
The Deputy Minister of Population and Family Development/Deputy Head of BKKBN, Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, inspected the implementation of family planning services at the Ayani Independent Midwife Practice (TPMB) in South Tangerang, Banten, on Friday (18/9/2026).
During the inspection, Isyana observed the service workflow for Long-Term Contraceptive Methods (MKJP), ranging from counselling, screening, and examinations, to the insertion of IUDs and implants, as well as post-procedure counselling. She also engaged in dialogue with several users regarding their experiences in accessing contraceptive services.
Isyana stated that family planning services represent a form of government access for couples of reproductive age to obtain contraception according to their needs. According to her, the family planning programme is not intended to dictate the number of children each family should have.
“Kemendukbangga/BKKBN does not want to set a fixed number of children; the most important thing is the ability to conduct family planning,” Isyana said in a press release on Monday (21/9/2026).
She explained that family planning also includes regulating pregnancy intervals to help couples prepare for pregnancy while preventing the ‘4 Too’ risks: too young, too old, too close, and too many.
“Family planning also includes maintaining pregnancy intervals, as demonstrated by the community in South Tangerang,” she added.
These family planning services are part of fulfilling public needs as mandated by Law Number 52 of 2009 concerning Population Development and Family Development.
The Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang, Pilar Saga Ichsan, expressed appreciation for the implementation of the free family planning services. He noted that the service provides significant benefits for couples of reproductive age in the Setu District.
“Today, we have assisted couples of reproductive age in the Setu District in accessing free contraceptive insertion facilities,” said Pilar.
Kemendukbangga/BKKBN is encouraging wider access to family planning services and reproductive health education. For couples of reproductive age, contraceptive services can be utilised to plan pregnancies and regulate birth intervals.
Members of the public can access free family planning services until 7 October 2026 at health facilities registered with Kemendukbangga/BKKBN. Information regarding access can be obtained through Family Planning Educators/Family Planning Field Officers (PKB/PLKB) at the nearest Family Planning Counselling Centre.
Members of the public are also encouraged to consult with health officials beforehand to determine the contraceptive method that best suits the specific conditions and needs of each couple.
