Free Eye Examinations Held for Residents of Pulau Tidung
Around 100 residents of Pulau Tidung, Thousand Islands, participated in free eye examinations organised by PT Jakarta OSES Energi (PT JOE) through its corporate social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) programme. Residents found to require vision aids based on the examination results also received free spectacles.
The Acting General Manager of Corporate Affairs at PT JOE, Henri D Manurising, stated that the activity was conducted to ensure the company’s CSR programme provides direct benefits to the community.
“Eye health is an essential need because vision is closely linked to the community’s daily activities,” he said in a statement on Saturday (19/09/2026).
During the event, residents of Pulau Tidung Village, South Thousand Islands District, underwent a process ranging from data collection to examinations using vision testing equipment. A number of students also underwent examinations using trial frames with testing lenses.
The examination results served as the basis for determining which residents required glasses and for tailoring vision aids to each recipient’s specific condition. Consequently, the spectacles provided were customised to meet the residents’ visual needs.
Henri noted that communities in island regions were a key consideration in the implementation of the company’s CSR programme. These eye examinations are one of PT JOE’s social activities for the communities living around the company’s oil and gas operational areas.
“This is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to being present and beneficial to the people living alongside our operational activities,” Henri said.
He expressed hope that the activity would increase public awareness regarding eye health and encourage regular check-ups, particularly for residents beginning to experience changes in their vision.
