Free cataract surgery

PADANG, West Sumatra: The local eye clinic plans to perform
surgery on about 1,000 cataract patients in the province free of
charge this year.

Clinic head Elya Thaher, said here last week the operations
will be sponsored by the Lion's Club with additional funds from
the government.

The program will be undertaken in phases in each regency. The
first surgery began last month and so far 132 people have been
operated on in Tanah Datar and Solok regencies.

As reported by Antara, Elya said that treatment will include
post-operation examinations.(mds)
