The Free BUMN Mudik Programme 2026 was officially launched through a flag-off ceremony at Ring Road Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 17 March 2026. The bus dispatch commenced at 08:00 Western Indonesia Time, marking the beginning of the journey for thousands of homebound travellers to various destinations across Indonesia.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Head of Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara Dony Oskaria, Deputy Head of BPI Danantara Tedi Bharata, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces Mayjen Suhardi, Head of the Traffic Police Corps Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho, Managing Director of Stakeholder Management BPI Danantara Rohan Hafas, and BUMN group directors.

Coordinating Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) characterised the free mudik programme as a collective endeavour. He expressed gratitude and appreciation to BUMN entities for implementing the initiative, which is expected to reduce private vehicle usage, particularly motorcycles. “As directed by President Prabowo, if we can provide the best service to the public, this certainly demonstrates that the state and government are always present for them,” AHY said.

A total of 66 buses carrying approximately 3,300 participants from 96 BUMN companies and subsidiaries participated in the launch ceremony. These buses represented the collaborative effort of BUMN in supporting smooth Eid homecoming traffic flow. The 2026 Free BUMN Mudik Programme achieved 116,688 travellers, surpassing the initial target of 104,000—an increase of approximately 10 per cent from the target.

Participants were dispatched to over 200 regencies and municipalities across various regions of Indonesia. The Free BUMN Mudik Programme 2026 deployed 1,541 buses serving approximately 83,432 passengers, 99 train sets carrying approximately 28,720 passengers, and 46 ships transporting approximately 4,532 passengers. The programme also introduced specialised buses for travellers with disabilities, demonstrating BUMN’s commitment to providing inclusive, safe, and comfortable mudik services for all members of society. Additionally, electric buses were deployed to promote more environmentally friendly transportation usage and support sustainable transport innovation within the Free BUMN Mudik Programme 2026.

BPI Danantara Head Dony Oskaria stated that the Free BUMN Mudik Programme represents BUMN’s genuine commitment to serving and providing direct benefits to the public, particularly during the significant occasion of Eid al-Fitr. Through this programme, the state via BUMN assists the public in undertaking homecoming journeys that are safer and more comfortable.

“The Free BUMN Mudik Programme represents mutual cooperation and BUMN’s concern for society. We want to ensure the public can undertake mudik journeys more safely, comfortably, and securely, whilst simultaneously reducing traffic congestion during the Eid holiday period,” said Dony.

Dony further noted that the year-on-year increase in participant numbers demonstrates strong public trust and enthusiasm for the programme. According to him, beyond helping the public undertake homecoming without financial transport burden, the initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion and enhance travel safety during the Eid mudik period.

Dony also appreciated support from various parties in implementing the programme, including Danantara, the House of Representatives, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development, the Ministry of Transportation, the TNI–Police, and regional governments. This collaboration was deemed crucial in ensuring the programme’s smooth, safe implementation and tangible societal impact.

“We hope all participants arrive at their hometowns safely and celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families in a safe and comfortable environment,” Dony concluded.
