Fraudster Embezzled 500 Trays of Eggs Worth Rp 24 Million Sentenced to Probation in North Sumatra
The Balige District Court in North Sumatra has handed down a probation sentence to the defendant, LPS (3ered 35). The judge ruled that LPS was guilty of fraud and the embezzlement of 500 trays of eggs valued at Rp 24 million, using a fraudulent cooperation scheme related to the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
According to the Supreme Court website, the verdict for LPS was delivered on Thursday (20/8). According to the prosecutor’s indictment, the offences occurred between February and March 2026.
During that period, LPS offered a fraudulent partnership to an egg entrepreneur identified by the initials PM. LPS claimed to require a large supply of eggs to provide for the Nutritional Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) under the MBG programme.
Lured by the offer, the victim eventually sent 50 bundles, or approximately 500 trays of eggs, worth Rp 24 million. For reference, one tray typically contains 30 eggs.
In total, 500 trays comprised 1,500 eggs. The defendant had promised to settle the payment within 10 days after the eggs were delivered. However, the defendant failed to pay for the eggs after receiving funds from the SPPG, instead embezzling the money for personal use.
The victim reportedly made repeated attempts to claim the owed amount, but the defendant repeatedly claimed that the funds from the SPPG had not yet been disbursed. The defendant subsequently fled from his workplace to evade the victim.
Prosecutors had sought to have LPS proven legally and convincingly guilty of embezzlement under Article 486 of the Criminal Code, requesting a five-month prison sentence. However, the panel of judges reached a different conclusion.
The judges prioritised a peaceful resolution through the application of provisions in Article 87 juncto Article 204 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia Regulation Number 1 of 2024 regarding Guidelines for Adjudicating Criminal Cases Based on Restorative Justice.
The court took into account that the defendant had reached a settlement agreement with the victim on 4 August 2026. The judges also noted that the defendant had returned the Rp 24 million to the victim during the trial. The victim has received the compensation and has forgiven the defendant’s actions.
The panel of judges, led by Kristin Jones Manurung and including members Josua Navirio Pardede and Sarah Yananda, sentenced the defendant to four months in prison. However, the panel ordered that the prison sentence need not be served, on the condition that the defendant does not repeat the crime and must undergo eight months of probation.
